THE BENEFITS OF EPOXY FLOORING
WHY SHOULD YOU MAKE THE SWITCH?
When it comes to epoxy flooring, you will find that there are plenty of amazing benefits that are going to be waiting for you. From superior durability to an insane number of customizations, epoxy flooring has all you need and more! Let us tell you how epoxy flooring is able to benefit your home or business front.
- When it comes to the durability of epoxy flooring, you will find that it has earned its nickname of ” life proof flooring.” When epoxy flooring has been properly installed, the epoxy flooring will be able to stand up to some serious abuse. Epoxy flooring can handle heavy vehicle traffic, impact from dropped objects and even the effects of harsh chemicals. Epoxy flooring is also able to make the actual concrete slab up to 300 percent stronger as well!
- Epoxy flooring is very easy to maintain since it does not require the use of any tedious polishing or waxing to give it its amazing shine. Epoxy flooring only requires upkeep at least once a week and maintenance is to be completed with a soft bristle broom or a dust mop and a standard wet mop.
- Epoxy flooring is extremely resistant to most chemicals and this is thanks to epoxy floorings solid top coat that isolates the chemical on the surface of the epoxy flooring. This isolation of the chemical on the surface of the epoxy flooring makes it easy to clean up and dispose of the chemical. Did you know that bare concrete is a porous surface? This means that the concrete will absorb the chemical and that will lead to the concrete becoming damaged and the chemical being released into the surrounding soil, leading to severe environmental damage.
- One of the best benefits of epoxy flooring is the level of customization that this flooring option has. Epoxy flooring can be customized with a number of different designs, colors, flakes and even metallic pigments. For the man cave or storefront, we can even place an emblem or logo into the epoxy flooring!
HOW TO MAINTAIN YOUR EPOXY FLOORING
THE WORRY FREE FLOORING
The maintenance on epoxy flooring is extremely minimalistic:
- Epoxy flooring is to be swept only with a soft bristle brush or a dust mop as a stiff bristle brush can leave mynute scratches in the top coat of the epoxy flooring that can be unsightly when exposed to lighting.
- Once the epoxy flooring is free of loose debris, the flooring will need to be mopped with a standard wet mop. When mopping the floor, make sure not to focus on one area too much when mopping as it can make the surface seem dull.
- Before adding any cleaning agents to the wet mop make sure the chemical is tested. To test the chemical, mask off a tiny area on the flooring that is either in the corner or in an area that is going to be covered, and just use a splash of the material. If the material turns the top coat cloudy, do not use the material, if nothing happens you are good to go.
A special method of maintenance that can be used if the area epoxy flooring has been placed in an area that can be wet is that you can actually use a garden hose to wash down the epoxy flooring. The only risks of using the method are where you use it; please don’t use a hose in your living room; and how it is done. Areas that can use this method most effectively are commercial and industrial facilities and garages. When using this method always make sure that the water is below 115 degrees Fahrenheit and that you always keep the hose moving and not focused for too long on one area.
While the maintenance on epoxy flooring is very minimalistic, it is extremely crucial to how long the epoxy flooring is going to last. Always make sure the maintenance is done once a week in low traffic areas and once a day in high traffic areas and you will enjoy the epoxy flooring for well over 20 years.
HOW WE PREPARE FOR EPOXY FLOORING
FAST AND EFFICIENT
The process of preparing for epoxy flooring is the most important step out of all others of epoxy flooring. While other companies will try to cut corners to save time and money preparing for epoxy flooring, we will always stick to the same routine because we know it works and the result will be well worth all the hard work.
First, we start by repairing all cracks and imperfections in the concrete slab with a material that dries just as hard as concrete. All stains will be lifted in this stage of preparation as well.
The next step is to profile the concrete slab with either a diamond wheel grinder or a shot blaster with will open the pores of the concrete to allow the resin to form a tight bond with the concrete slab.

After the entire surface of concrete has been thoroughly checked for other imperfections, stains and has been cleaned, a coat of epoxy primer is going to be placed on the surface of the concrete to further the bond of epoxy to the concrete as well as help the epoxy cure.
The next steps are going to be the installation of the epoxy coating. If you want to know more about the actual installation of the epoxy, make sure to ask your contractor more!
